  • What is Hack U at IIT Bombay 2017?

    Hack U is an event conducted by Yahoo! JAPAN exclusively for students from various universities all over the world. Students get a platform to develop their innovative ideas and showcase their talent.
    We, here at Yahoo! JAPAN are interested in providing support to students to accomplish their ideas and making this a fun-filled and knowledge sharing event.
    This time we are excited to have it at IITB!!

    Presentation & Demo : March 26th (Sun) 9:00 AM ~ Noon

    Rules

    • Regarding Participants:

      • Participant should be a NON-FINAL YEAR student of IIT Bombay *
      • Students of all branches/specialties are welcome to participate.
    • Regarding Team:

      • Team size 2 ~ 5 members.
      • A student can be a member of only one team.
    • Regarding Idea/Prototype:

      • There is no restriction on the theme. You are free to develop any idea which can be anything ranging from software, hardware, or a business model. But there should be some kind of programming involved. A working prototype is required to qualify for the prize.
      • Idea should be original. Hacks created in past do not qualify.
      • Intellectual property rights will be retained by the team/developer.
      • However, Yahoo! JAPAN reserves the rights to photograph the event, distribute the event contents and post them online. Such content includes photographs, presentations, videos, etc.
      • Any case of plagiarism will result in disqualification.
    • Regarding Presentation:

      • Idea/Prototype need to be explained in a manner that the judges can understand easily by means of presentation, demo, skit, etc.
      • Each team will be given 3 minutes to present their work. Presentation time may change based on the number of teams.
      • There will be a demo exhibition before or after the presentations, where all the teams need to exhibit their ideas/prototype.
    • Regarding Development:

      • You may use any development environment/language (can use external paid servers also).
      • However the costs incurred for the development of the Hack will not be borne by Yahoo! JAPAN.
      • You may use APIs other than that of Yahoo! JAPAN, but please be careful with the licenses.
      • We encourage you to be present at the venue as much as possible.
      • Development needs to be done during the given period only, although you can decide on the ideas and investigate on the technical aspects before the development period.
    • Regarding Prize:

      • The Grand Prize is a trip to Japan.
      • More details about the prize will be updated later.


      * As per the Placement Cell guidelines, Final Year Students are not entitled to participate.
      * Yahoo! JAPAN reserves the right to alter any of the above rules or prizes at its discretion without prior notice.
